Social Media can Affect Your Future

Summary

Social media may affect if you get in to a college or not. A recent study showed that 31% of colleges are looking at applicants social media page. Some schools say that even if they look at social media it doesn't affect students chances of acceptance. Go here for the full article.

Things That Surprise Me

This article contained some surprises, the first one was one student who was at a college information session, tweeted out rude comments about her fellow prospective students because she didn't realize that the school monitored there mentions. Also, some students don't realize that comments they make online can negative affect them. Last, 30% of the surveyed admissions officers said they discovered information online that hurt applicants prospects.

Questions I Have

I had some questions on the article as well. The first is the article mentions students untagging them self's in pictures and changing their searchable names. My question was does this actually make it harder to find you on social media? My second question is about the mention of accidentally mistaking others accounts for a prospective students. My question was why would they take the risk of making a mistake, especially if it will not influence the students chances of acceptance.

How This Will Affect My Social Media Use

This will affect my social media use in two or three ways. It will cause me to be more aware of the different ways someone could interpret my posts. I will make sure that all of my posts make since and have positive meaning.
