The Six Shot System

The six shot system is a way to shoot photos so the viewer can easily understand what is going on in the pictures. It has six simple photos that you can take to provide an accurate depiction of the person, or subject, what they are doing, and how they feel about it.

The first shot is a close up of the hands. This shows what he subject of the photos is doing. In this picture try to make the hands take up most of the screen.

The second photo is a close up of the face. It shows how the subject feels about the task they are preforming. Try to get the full face in tis picture, not cutting off the top or bottom.

The third photo is an over the shoulder shot. This shows what the person is doing from their perspective. Try to get some of their head and the object the are working on.

The forth picture is a medium shot. It ties together what the subject is doing and what they are feeling.  You should be able to see from their head to their waist. Get their face in the shot if possible.

The fifth photo is a wide shot. This lets you see all of the person as well as some of the setting. Make sure the person is looking towards the side of the screen that has more space. Get all the the person in the shot, don't cut off the head or feet.

The sixth and final shot is an extra wide shot. This shot shows the setting in relation to the subject.
